News: Foundation for Geriatric Education donates $2,000 to Roane State PTA program

The Foundation for Geriatric Education donated $2,000 to help purchase equipment for Roane State Community College’s physical therapist assistant (PTA) program.

“We greatly appreciate the foundation’s support for Roane State physical therapist assistant students,” said Dr. Michael Laman, Roane State dean of allied health sciences. “PTAs play a critical role in healthcare, and thanks to the foundation’s support, we will be able to provide our students with new learning tools to help them succeed in this important field.”

The Foundation for Geriatric Education is a nonprofit organization started by Dr. Carl Adams, founder of National HealthCare Corporation. Founded in 1982, the Foundation for Geriatric Education provides funding to schools and organizations to enhance their geriatric curriculum.

NHC affiliates operate for themselves and third parties 74 long-term health care centers with 9,357 beds. NHC affiliates also operate 36 homecare programs, five independent living centers and 18 assisted living communities. NHC's other services include Alzheimer's units, long-term care pharmacies, a rehabilitation services company, and providing management and accounting services to third parties. Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer programs, career-preparation programs and continuing education. Founded in 1971, the college has campuses in Crossville, Harriman, Huntsville, Jamestown, Knoxville, LaFollette, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge and Wartburg.
