The newly formed Roane State Community College Shooting Sports Team won two national honors in its first competition, the 2015 Scholastic Clay Target Program’s (SCTP) Collegiate National Championships.

The Oct. 29-Nov. 1 competition in Marengo, Ohio involved all team members shooting four disciplines: trap, skeet, sporting clays, and five-stand.

Trap shooting has always been the strongest discipline for the team, which was evident by them winning the 2015 SCTP National Runner-Up Team in Division III Trap. Roane State was also the 2015 SCTP Third Place High Overall Team in Division III.

The Roane State team includes Andy Carey, Cody Chattin, Nathan Hembree, Daniel Hester and Nathan Wattenbarger. Kenny Carey is the team’s head coach, and he is assisted by Kevin Hembree and James Wattenbarger. All coaches are volunteers.

“With this being our first team competition, I am thrilled at what these young men have accomplished and them bringing home two national awards,” Carey said. “I appreciate RSCC giving us the opportunity so start this program, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this young team.”
