Bradley "Justin" Bailey

Being the new fire chief of Oliver Springs is a "part-time job with full-time hours," Roane State Community College graduate Bradley "Justin" Bailey says, only partly in jest.
Bailey, 33, a native of Oliver Springs, was recently named the fire chief by the town's Mayor and Board of Aldermen after serving in an interim position as chief since June. The former chief, Terry Phillips, died June 30.
Bailey graduated from the paramedic program at Roane State, where he also obtained an associate degree in allied health science.
The paramedic program "allowed me to better myself in patient care," Bailey said. He said his Roane State education also sharpened his skills in leadership and time management.
Bailey is a full-time firefighter with the Knoxville Fire Department.
There are 25 on-call firefighters in Oliver Springs who work as volunteers and are paid when they respond to calls. On average, there are about 400 calls annually in the Oliver Springs coverage area.
Bailey has been a member of the Oliver Springs Fire Department since 2001 and had served as assistant fire chief. He also holds a bachelor of science degree in fire administration from Southern Columbia University and two advanced firefighting certifications.
Oliver Springs is a town of about 3,200 residents.
