Roane State police, in coordination with the Crossville Police Department, has determined that a sexual assault did not occur at Roane State’s Cumberland County campus.
“The allegation was recanted,” Roane State police chief Tom Stufano said.
Roane State police received a report at 6:45 p.m. EDT on Thursday that an alleged sexual assault had occurred. The college immediately issued notification of the allegation through emergency text message, email and on its website.
Investigators interviewed the individual who made the report. During the interview, the individual recanted the allegation. Evidence gathered by police supported that the initial allegation was false.
The college has provided the individual with counseling. In addition, the college notified the individual’s family members, who were at the campus to offer support and were present throughout the investigation.
“We consider this matter to be closed,” Chief Stufano said.
