News: Work by Roane State’s Wilkerson selected for Sculpture Park in Michigan

“Faux Rest” by Roane State’s Bryan Wilkerson will be included in the John D. Wittersheim Sculpture Park on the Siena Heights University campus in Adrian, Mich.

July 3, 2017

A sculpture by prize-winning Roane State associate art professor Bryan Wilkerson has been selected for inclusion in a sculpture park at a Michigan university.

Wilkerson’s creation, titled “Faux Rest,” will be included in the John D. Wittersheim Sculpture Park on the Siena Heights University campus in Adrian.

“With over 100 submissions nationally, I feel honored to be selected as one of the artists for this year’s exhibition,” Wilkerson said.

Wilkerson’s imposing metalwork has been previously exhibited in other venues. Its permanent home is on the Roane State courtyard at the college’s main campus in Harriman.

The piece has been described as “four perforated ‘walls’ that balance shadow with solid form, creating a seek-and-find interplay of positive and negative space against the open field setting.”

The Wittersheim Sculpture Park is in memory of longtime Siena Heights Art Professor John D. Wittersheim, who died of cancer in 2014 at age 59.

The park honors “the craftsmanship, ideas, tools and lessons of John,” according to the committee that called for entries in the latest exhibition.

Wilkerson has been a Roane State educator since 1999 and is an associate professor of art. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Fine Arts from The Ohio State University. He teaches computer art, ceramics and other art courses.
