News: Roane State's Gadd among 22 nursing students to receive Hurst Review NCLEX Scholarships

April 23, 2018

Submitted by Phi Theta Kappa

Jackson, Mississippi — Twenty-two Phi Theta Kappa members have been awarded Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarships to help cover the cost of NCLEX exam fees and study materials.

The 2018 Hurst Scholars are:

Brittany Gadd

The scholarship, funded by national nursing exam prep company Hurst Review Services, is exclusively for Phi Theta Kappa nursing majors who plan to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX®). Hurst Scholars will receive a code to cover the cost of Hurst Review NCLEX® study materials and a cash award to cover the NCLEX® exam fees.

“Hurst’s mission has always been to help nursing students succeed by improving clinical judgement skills through the best NCLEX® preparation course available,” Hurst CEO Pat Lowery said. “Together, Hurst and Phi Theta Kappa can provide the resources required to begin a successful career in nursing.”

The NCLEX® is a standardized exam given by each state’s board of nursing to determine if RN or LPN/LVN candidates are competent for entry-level nursing practice. In addition to the scholarship, Hurst also provides a $50 discount on NCLEX study materials — including the company’s newest product, N-STREAM — for all Phi Theta Kappa members preparing to take the exam.

“It is such a privilege to work with Hurst Review Services to provide scholarships for NCLEX® certification fees for our members,” said Dr. Monica Marlowe, Executive Director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation. “Exam costs often create a financial barrier for students that hinders their ability to enter the workforce. We hope this partnership is the first of many to benefit our members who face the additional costs of certifications necessary for them to find employment.”

Hurst Review is an educational services company based in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Since 1988, Hurst’s proven NCLEX® review course has helped hundreds of thousands of nursing students achieve first-attempt success.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in ten nations. Learn more at ptk.org.
