HARROGATE, TN. – Members of Roane State’s night EMT course received an in-depth overview of how to treat various types of burns during a recent lecture at Lincoln Memorial University.
Debbie Harrell, an RN with the Cincinnati Shriners Hospital with more than 30 years of pediatric and burn experience, was the featured speaker.
She provided statistics about the various types of burns and how they are often associated with different times of the year, said Jason Fox, a member of the adjunct faculty of Roane State’s Allied Health Sciences Division. The event was hosted by the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine at LMU.
“I feel confident that the information provided by Ms. Harrell will allow both current and future (emergency care) providers with a better understanding and ability to treat burns of all types,” Fox said. That information, he said, “can truly be the difference in the quality of life of any burn victim.”
“In fact,” Fox continued, “the knowledge obtained could be the difference in life and death.”
