All four soloists in the Sunday, April 28 presentation by the Roane Choral Society of "Gloria, Gloria!" at 3 p.m. in South Harriman Baptist Church are alumni of the Roane State Community College Music Department, said Brenda Luggie, music department professor and society director.
The church is located at 626 Ruritan Road, and admission to the performance, which will include members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, is by donation (cash, check or credit card).
There will be a short, mid-concert talk by Roane State Community College adjunct faculty Amanda Peavyhouse, who is also the soprano soloist for the performance. Peavyhouse has a Master of Music degree from Georgia State.
Other soloists are Amanda Miranda, soprano, music director of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Rockwood and owner of White Rose Music Studios in Harriman; Clayton Scarborough, tenor, director of music at Rockwood United Methodist Church in Rockwood; and Austin Patterson, bass, featured as a soloist and small ensemble member on previous Roane Choral Society concerts.
The April 28 concert "features both the classic Vivaldi's 'Gloria' and a modern setting by Mark Hayes while highlighting the stylistic differences of composers from different cultures and eras using the same revered text," Luggie said.
Slade Trammell, considered a popular and accomplished solo pianist with a talent for accompanying singers, is beginning his seventh year with Roane Choral Society and is featured in the performance. He has a master's degree from University of Tennessee and is director of music at Grace Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge.
The April 28 concert is partially funded under an agreement with the state through the Tennessee Arts Commission. Luggie said the Roane Choral Society is a nonprofit organization, and grants and contributions are crucial to its ability to put on performances.
