A third collection of short stories by a Roane State assistant professor will be published May 15 by Texas Review Press and includes "Irises," which won the esteemed O. Henry Prize in 2016 for short stories deemed exceptional.
Elizabeth Genovise's new collection is titled "Posing Nude for the Saints," and is also the title of one of her short stories.
Those tales span an eclectic gamut; from a cynical lawyer given a chance to save a life, to runaway children living in an abandoned camper, to a divorcee responding to an online ad for boudoir photography.
The book is also available via Amazon.
Genovise has been teaching English composition and literature at Roane State's Roane County campus for nine years.
She began teaching creative writing courses at the college last fall, and also teaches Creative Writing in Personal Development courses at the college and for ORICL, the Oak Ridge Institute for Continued Learning.
Her other two books of short stories are "A Different Harbor," (Mayapple Press 2014) and "Where There Are Two or More," (Fomite Press, 2015).
Genovise recently was granted a scholarship to the Looking Glass Writers' Conference at Brevard College, N.C., May 9-12, where she'll be doing a reading from her novel-in-progress, about a broken family running an inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Coincidentally, the college is near the parkway.
The conference is being led by novelist Wiley Cash and will feature intensive fiction workshops with other writers as well as a series of readings.
