It’s the annual “Trunk or Treat” event at Roane State’s flagship Roane County campus, and it will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31, 2019 in the student parking lot next to the O’Brien Theatre.

The address is 276 Patton Lane, Harriman.

In the popular tradition, “Faculty, staff, students and community members park and give out candy from the trunk of their vehicles,” said Jennifer Fugate, a success coach in the college’s student services department and the new coordinator of student engagement.

Fugate said some participants even decorate their vehicles with Halloween themes. The event “provides a safe alternative if parents do not want to drive their kids around their neighborhood,” she said.

Roane State students can volunteer to help in the event, and that’s a way to earn community service hours that are required in order for them to keep their Tennessee Promise scholarships. Those grants provide two years of tuition-free attendance at the state’s community and technical colleges.

For more information or for students wanting to volunteer, contact Fugate at or call 865-354-3000, extension 4849.

Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer programs, career-preparation programs and continuing education. Founded in 1971, the college has campuses in Crossville, Harriman, Huntsville, Jamestown, Knoxville, LaFollette, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge, Wartburg and Clinton.
