Medical Laboratory Technology (AAS)

The medical laboratory technician is a vital part of the health care team working under the direct supervision of a physician and/or medical technologist. Medical laboratory technicians (MLTs) perform a wider range of laboratory tests in diverse clinical settings such as a hospital, clinic, and/or a physician office. The laboratory tests are performed on body fluids including blood, sputum and stool.

This program consists of 2 semesters general course work, 3 semesters of laboratory specific coursework (with the last two semesters also consisting of clinical externship rotations.) Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Board of Certification exam and obtain state of Tennessee licensure. 

  1. The early decision application deadline for the MLT program is March 31st!

  2. the Intro to Med Lab Exemption Exam will be Wednesday April 10th @ 10am. Anyone interested in this exam should contact Madeline Hibbard, hibbardm1@roanestate.edu for more information.

Location

The Medical Laboratory Program is taught on the Oak Ridge Campus. Clinical affiliates are all hospitals within the Covenant Health System (primarily located within Knox County), East Tennessee Children's Hospital, and Blount Memorial Hospital.
