This one week course will apply the Registered Nurse's previous clinical knowledge and skills to prehospital situations and supplement it with the additional knowledge and skills necessary to function in the prehospital environment. This intensive course will cover topics such a prehospital assessment, EMS equipment, patient management, field triage and EMS operations. A portion of the didactic course work will be done online prior to arriving on the campus. Clinicals will be scheduled in the evenings.
Successful completion of the course will result in a certificate of completion and eligibility to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam for State licensure as an EMT-IV.
Prerequisites: current active RN license; 2 years of full-time experience in the emergency department or Critical Care Units; current certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, PHTLS or TNCC.
