Need help, but can’t make it in to meet with a tutor?  You have two options:  The Learning Center Online and Smarthinking.com

The Learning Center Online (LCO)

If you're currently enrolled at Roane State, the Learning Center Online should already be listed as one of your courses on your Momentum page.  The navigation bar at the top of the Course Home page includes liks to online writing resources, MLA and APA style documentation information, math study resources, and test-taking advice!  You can also ask the tutors any math, science, or Spanish question in our online discussions.  Best of all, you can upload your essay to the dropbox, fill out a survey explaining the kind of writing help you're looking for, and receive feedback from a trained writing tutor.  The Learning Center Online is the best place to find online resources for YOUR courses at Roane State!

SMARTHINKING

The Learning Center also provides access to SMARTHINKING online tutoring.  PLEASE NOTE: the login site has changed!  You'll need to visit this site to login:  http://services.smarthinking.com  Your username is: email@roanestate.edu and your password is: R########, where the email address is your Roane State email address, and R######## is your R number.  You can find your R number by logging into your Raidernet account, where your R number will appear in the upper right hand corner.

Here are our responses to your Frequently Asked Questions about the Learning Center Online (LCO): 

How long will it take to receive feedback from a tutor if I submit my paper to the Learning Center Online? 

Though we try to return your draft to you as soon as possible, we ask that you give us at least 48 hours to review your paper.  We want to make sure that we have plenty of time to provide a thorough, helpful response.  Of course, you'll also want to give yourself some time to read our comments and revise your draft.  In other words, the sooner you can submit your paper--the better!

How will the Learning Center Online tutors know what kind of help I need?

When you submit a paper to the Learning Center Online, you'll be asked to complete a survey.  The survey allows you to identify your course and instructor, describe your assignment, and select three different types of feedback that you'd like to receive.  Our tutors review each survey before completing an online tutoring session, tailoring their feedback to the kinds of help that you've requested.
