Overview
The Contemporary Management Program, designed specifically for working adults, provides the academic credentials and advanced skills necessary for upward mobility in area businesses. This “accelerated” degree program combines reduced in-class instruction with outside assignments. There are three accelerated formats in which you may choose to complete your management classes: (1) traditional, (2) IDEA Room / Video Conferencing, and (3) hybrid accelerated.
This unique program design allows working adults to earn a degree in a short period of time while keeping their full-time job. In addition, individuals may receive credit through a portfolio process for prior college-level learning whether in a classroom or on the job. Faculty assessors will review each participant’s background and grant credit if applicable.
Because of its fast-paced format, a very high level of maturity and dedication will be required of students in this program. Each student should discuss his/her interest in taking these accelerated courses with a faculty advisor from the business department.
The successful completion of the two-year Contemporary Management program will result in an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. Though this degree is not designed to transfer to a university, many colleges accept the credits toward a bachelor’s of science degree. Students should contact their advisor for more information.
Work Settings
Managers are involved in planning, directing, and coordinating activities within an organization. Their work may involve skills in analyzing problems, making decisions, delegating assignments, training and supervising staff, budgeting and coordinating activities, and reinforcing a team environment. Graduates may be employed in various sectors including government, education, and/or private industry, all which require a wide range of demonstrated skills and accomplishments.
Managers work in a variety of work settings such as government agencies, health care facilities, higher education, insurance companies, manufacturing firms, nonprofit organizations, telecommunications, utilities, and wholesalers/retailers. Many also choose to open their own business.
Credentialing Requirements
Because management covers such a broad range of interest areas, there is no single certification or license required after obtaining your Contemporary Management degree to make you more qualified for the field.
However, some voluntary function-specific credentials that are recognized by industry include:
Location
Many of the courses required for the Contemporary Management program are offered at each of our Roane State locations. Additionally, some of these courses are offered in various formats for your convenience. Please refer to the current accelerated schedule for the campus or center closest to you.
Salary
Because the contemporary management program is so broad, one salary figure does not cover all the possibilities. Many working students choose this program because it will help them earn a promotion at their current place of employment. Students interested in starting their own businesses find that this program prepares them to become entrepreneurs, whose salaries vary widely. Whether students want to move into a management role, earn a promotion, or become their own boss, the contemporary management program is a great option because the classes provide valuable instruction while fitting into the schedules of busy working adults.
Accreditation
The Contemporary Management program is accredited and approved by the Association of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), a discipline-specific national accreditation agency.
