Dual Studies Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll?

Students must be admitted to the college prior to enrolling in classes. Links to get started are on the Dual Studies homepage.

What is RaiderNet?

RaiderNet is the place where you check your email, course registration status, grades, financial aid information and other services.

How do I access my RaiderNet account?

Create your RaiderNet account: Go to roanestate.edu and click on RaiderNet in the top bar, then click on "New Account Setup". Once in RaiderNet, you will be able to see your RSCC ID# or R#. If you have difficulties accessing your account, the Help Desk is available during college operating hours.

Will the course I take transfer to other colleges?

Most courses transfer to Tennessee institutions; however, to find out whether the specific course you plan to take will transfer to other colleges and universities, you should contact the institution that you plan to attend or you may contact the Advising Resource Center at Roane State.

Click here for more information regarding course transferability.

What happens if I am late or I miss a class?

Every college instructor must issue students a course syllabus at the beginning of each semester that should address attendance policy. Different instructors have different policies. Contact your instructor via email if you have specific questions. Type the faculty name in the Search Box at the top right-hand corner of the RSCC home page to find an email address for your instructor.

Grades will be officially posted approximately four to five days after the final exam date. You can access your grades on your RaiderNet account. Individual faculty may post grades prior to that time as indicated by your instructor.

Do I need this class for my major?

The Advising Resource Center provides detailed instruction on how to determine your major, how to know what courses are required for specific majors, and what courses will transfer to four year institutions.

May I use the RSCC library and tutoring services?

Absolutely! Roane State has libraries in Harriman and Oak Ridge. Learning Resource Centers with library access are available at most Roane State campuses. Visit the Learning Center website to determine the Center and/or tutors located nearest you and the hours of availability.

The Learning Center offers a an online tutoring service through Momentum, called the Learning Center Online. The LCO will provide Roane State students with tutoring in writing, math, and science. All students with access to Momentum will have access to the LCO.

What is Brainfuse?

Roane State tutors are available for most general education courses. If you need help in a course in which we are unable to provide tutoring, the Learning Center provides free access to Brainfuse online tutoring assistance for all Roane State students. To connect with a Brainfuse tutor, go to your Momentum desktop and click on "My Tools" on the upper left of the page. Select "Brainfuse" from the dropdown list and you will be taken directly to the service. In the large box titled "Live Help", slect a topic and then choose a course. Hit the "Connect" button and you'll be taken directly to a video session with a live tutor. Most courses have tutors online 24 hours a day. If your subject has no one available at the time, you can click on "Check Tutor Availability" to see when someone will be available to help. From "Preferences", you can select tutoring in Spanish or you can speak with a tutor using audio only. All tutoring sessions are recorded. If you ever wish to go back and view a previous session, enter the service as you normally would and click on "Brainfuse" on the upper right of the page. Select "My Past Sessions" from the drop-down menu.

For User Guides on Brainfuse Live Tutoring and its other services go to: Brainfuse User Guides

I am not doing well in my class. May I drop a class?

College students may drop courses; however, you must have permission from your high school counselor if you are a dual enrollment student. Some courses are required for high school graduation and dropping the dual enrollment course could jeopardize necessary high school credits being awarded.

The deadline for withdrawing from a college class may be found on the Academic Calendar. To officially withdraw, you must submit a request through your RaiderNet account. Once on RaiderNet, go to your schedule, click on the drop down box for the class you wish to drop, choose Drop Classes, then save or submit:

How much does it cost to take a class?

Tuition and fees vary for different classes. Please check the Tuition and Fees page of the RSCC Web site to determine course cost. Depending on the course additional fees such as a lab fee for a science class may be applied to your balance.

Can I receive financial aid as a dual enrollment student?

There is a Dual Enrollment Grant (see Getting Started). Your local American Job Center may provide some assistance to students who qualify with financial needs. Federal financial aid is only available after high school graduation.

Additional Tuition/Fees

Some students opt to take more than one course per semester. These students should make sure all fees are paid on time. Payment will be accepted by cash, personal check, money order, or by VISA, American Express or MasterCard credit or debit card at any RSCC site or can be mailed to the Roane County Campus. Telephone authorizations by VISA or MasterCard are accepted at the Roane County Campus (865) 882-4515 or you may pay by accessing RaiderNet if you have been admitted as a RSCC student. Click on RaiderNet and log into your account. Go to Student Account Summary, and use the RaiderPay feature. For more information, contact the Business Office.

The computer system will delete students from the system who have not paid fees promptly. Be sure to check your RaiderNet account for account balances. If you are deleted from the system for non-payment, and you do not re-enroll with payment, you will not receive college credit even if you attend class and complete the assignments.

Financial Assistance: Dependents of State/UT/TBR

Dependents of the State, University of Tennessee (UT) or Tennessee Board of Regents employees are eligible for fee waivers:

Please contact the Human Resource Office at your institution of employment for appropriate paperwork. Submit the fee waiver to the Bursar's office.

Will I receive a high school credit for my dual enrollment class?

For dual enrollment classes that are taken at the high school during the school day, both high school and college credit are awarded. For courses taken at Roane State or that are offered before and/or after the regular school day, students must discuss with the high school principal/counselor prior to enrollment to determine if a high school credit will be awarded.
