Dual Studies
Class Rosters
Class Rosters

The high school student is in transition of learning to be more responsible for his/her education. He/she may need your assistance as they begin their college endeavor. Please check your class roll carefully to ensure each student in your class is officially on your roll and that students on your roll who are not attending class are reported to the Office of Records and Registration (865) 882-4526 or the Office of Dual Studies (865) 882-4504. Failure to do so may result in students not receiving credit for the course.

Roane State Policy AA-09-01 states the following:

Faculty members should access their class lists via Web for Faculty frequently during the semester to check for proper registration of students attending each class. Particular attention should be given to the accuracy of class lists after the add period is over. Class lists should be carefully reviewed after the add deadline and corrections or discrepancies should be reported to the Records and Registration Office by the faculty member. Any student in the class at that time, not listed on the class list, must be sent to the Office of Records and Registration to clarify the discrepancy. Students must be fully registered before they are allowed to attend any class. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to see that the student clears any discrepancy in his/her registration status. The Office of Records and Registration will notify the faculty member of the admission status of such a student. Faculty will be notified by email each semester of the dates that Web for Faculty will be open for grading. These dates are also posted in Web for Faculty each semester. During this period faculty can enter Web for Faculty and record grades for their assigned classes. No final grades may be reported for students whose names do not appear on the official roll. Faculty members must maintain accurate rolls at all times. Class lists and copies of grades assigned can be printed from Web for Faculty for faculty use.

Verification of your class roster is one of the most important aspects of dual studies. High school students are more mobile than most college students. Students may move out of the area and not know to drop or withdraw from a course. Because students are transitioning from high school to college, they may require assistance. Please contact the school counselor and/or the Records and Registration Office if a student is on your class roll but is not attending class.

Often students take more than one class and might not comprehend that they must pay tuition for college. Students with deferred payments may forget to pay fees and are purged from the official class roll. Then at the end of the semester, faculty cannot assign grades because the student has been disenrolled. This presents major issues for the Business Office and in Records and Registration. To reduce the problem, faculty should review official class rosters several times as the RSCC policy states.
