 Zack Sterner, Head Coach
sternerzg@roanestate.edu

Zack Sterner begins his first season as the head baseball coach of the Roane State Raiders.  Coach Sterner joined the Roane State baseball coaching staff in 2011 as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.  At the conclusion of the 2013 season, Sterner ascended to his new role as head baseball coach.  His extensive college and professional player background are well suited to develop quality talent to its full potential and move players to the next level.

Sterner's preparation for his head coaching position at Roane State began with his collegiate playing career and progressed into the professional ranks.  A draft product from Tennessee Wesleyan College, Sterner was taken in the 17th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. Coach Sterner has assimilated his collegiate and professional experiences into a highly organized, high energy program that demands the most of its players on and off the field.

Jim Redden, Assistant Coach
jredden19@gmail.com

Coach Jim Redden came to Roane State in the fall of 2010 as the Raiders’ pitching coach.  In his first season with Roane State the Raiders enjoyed their first 20 win season in over 20 years with two of those pitchers moving on to play Division I baseball.

Coach Redden begins this season with Roane State coaching hitters and outfielders.  Coach Redden is extremely pleased with this year’s recruiting class and feels there is a good “mesh” between returning players and incoming freshmen, “I’m really excited about this class and this team.  We have really increased our speed, arm strength, and hitting ability as a team, and especially in the outfield.  This group of outfielders have unlimited potential and I think they’ll be vital to our success in continuing to move this program forward to the next level.”

Coach Redden originally hails from central Kentucky where he played for coach Harold “Sonny” Denniston and was a two-time 1stteam All-conference choice at Woodford County High School both as a pitcher and outfielder before continuing his baseball career at Western Kentucky University.

Coach Redden has been married for 20 years to the former Julie Crossman from Frankfort, KY.  They have two children, Ben 18, and Zach 15.
