You have enrolled in one of two delivery modes offered for MATH 0891. Students enrolled in MATH 0891 have the ability to complete all 5 modules of Mathematics Learning Support (MLS) within a single semester. To achieve a passing grade in MATH 0891, a student must successfully complete the minimum of modules 1 thru 3. Modules 4 and 5 are completed by enrolling in MATH 0892. Any student that does not complete modules 1 thru 3 must enroll in MATH 0891. Any extra work completed in MATH 0891 beyond the first 3 modules will carry over into MATH 0892.
Any student enrolled in either MATH 0891 or 0892 is welcome to attempt the diagnostic once per semester as long as the student is enrolled in a MLS course. Students enrolled in the RODP version of MLS cannot take the diagnostic. The section you are in determines when you will be able to take a diagnostic exam. Any student may attempt the diagnostic prior to the start of classes. A link to the scheduled testing times is available below. Students enrolled in a Lab version of the course will have the opportunity to test on the first or second day of regulary scheduled classes. Students enrolled in the web version of the course will only have the first week of classes to attempt the diagnostic and must follow the Open Testing schdule for times and locations. Students forfeit any attempt at the diagnostic once they begin their course work within MyLabsPlus.
The diagnostic exam is designed to assess a student’s abilities in the 5 modules covered within MATH 0891 & 0892. Earning a score of 80% or greater in any of the 5 diagnostic modules exams means that the student will not have to complete any additional work in that module. A student who earns an 80% or greater for all 5 of the diagnostic module exams will be considered as having completed MLS and can enroll in the next college level math course. No course credit is given for testing out of any portion of MLS.
For the 2013-14 academic year, the diagnostic for web students can only be taken early in a Learning Support Lab at either the Roane Co. (main) Campus in Harriman or the Oak Ridge Branch Campus during specific times. Other campus locations may become available. Be sure to check back for dates, times and locations. The diagnostic is NOT available through the Testing Centers.
A student may opt to take the diagnostic exam early, for any module, in an attempt to test out of MATH 0891.
