Course Series: Medical Scribe

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then Roane State’s Healthcare Documentation Specialist/Medical Scribe courses may be just what you are looking for!

A Medical Scribe works alongside the physician in a medical office or hospital setting assisting with the documentation aspect of the patient care. Medical Scribes document the verbal communication between the patient and physician and provide real-time transcription of physician notes. They may also perform other related tasks such as the retrieval of medical test results and scheduling medical tests and procedures, etc.

Learn the Skills

Our courses provide a hands-on approach to learning the daily operations and skills needed to be successful as a Medical Scribe.

Daily operations may consist of:

  1. Documentation of the following patient information in an electronic medical record:

    • Real-time transcription of physician notes including the patient’s history, physical examination findings, and prescribed treatment
  2. Communicating with various departments within the facility
  3. Retrieval of medical test results
  4. Scheduling of medical tests, procedures, and appointments

Class Location

Classes may be delivered in a combination of web, hybrid and traditional classroom. Traditional classes are at the Oak Ridge Campus.

Length of Time to Complete the Medical Scribe Courses
