Interested in volunteering and serving others? Want to make your resume with more attractive to employers with real world work experience? Consider pursuing a Service Learning Diploma from Roane State! To qualify, you must:
1) Complete at least 200 hours of approved service for approved nonprofit organizations through classes, student organizations, or sports by the time you graduate from Roane State; and
2) Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at graduation.
To begin, please complete the Service Learning Diploma application and the hold harmless form and submit them to the address provided. We will then start a file in which records of your service will be kept.
Service Learning requires volunteering and reflection, so you must complete your service in coordination with coursework, or through extracurricular activies (campus clubs, sports, etc.--the Service Learning Club is a great club for this!). Once you have decided on your project(s) for a semester, choose a class or organization you would like to perform the reflection with. Discuss with the instructor, advisor, or coach what type of reflection you should perform. After completing the service, have your nonprofit supervisor submit the Final Student Evaluation Form to John Brown, using the address provided on the form. IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE THIS FORM, OR IF YOUR SUPERVISOR GRADES YOU POORLY, WE CANNOT CREDIT YOUR HOURS!
At the end of each semester, you will be e-mailed the total number of hours you completed for the semester, and your overall hour total. You may look at your file at any time.
If you have any questions, please contact John Brown at 865-354-3000 ext. 5050 or at brownjn2@roanestate.edu.
