AEMT is part of Emergency Medical Services.

This program is designed to provide the student with knowledge and skills of basic, and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and noncritical patients. Student learning will focus on expanding the level of understanding of human anatomy and physiology, disease process, initial assessment and patient stabilization, proper use of equipment such as automatic external defibrillators, oxygen administration, and airway management learned in the EMT program.  In addition, the student will learn about intravenous therapy, pharmacological interventions, and advanced airway management techniques.

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) technical certificate program is a one semester program.  Applicants to the EMT program will be selected in a cohort of 20 students per program location. For more information and detailed admission procedures

Students admitted to the program will complete an academic schedule of lecture, lab, and external learning experience (clinical) over a 15-week period.  Cohort members will be in the classroom 18 hours per week for lecture and lab instruction and 8 hours per week for their external learning experience.  During the external learning experience (clinical), AEMT candidates will be supervised by nursing and paramedic preceptors with various hospital/clinical based, and EMS agencies across the East Tennessee region.

This program is designed to meet all State and National requirements to prepare in testing for the AEMT exam given by the National Registry of Emergency Medication Technicians (NREMT).
