Distance Course Offerings

Types of Classes

The course number denotes what kind of class it is.
For example, a Web class has a "W" in the last part of the course number: ENGL 1010 W01.

Web (W)

These classes take place entirely online (a one-time on-site orientation may be required). Classes use D2L/Momentum (elearn.roanestate.edu) a learning management system that hosts content such as your syllabus, course materials, tests/quizzes, discussion boards, and grades. They may use online or proctored testing.

Web Class Offerings

TN eCampus Classes (R01, R25, R50, R80)

These are very similar to our regular web classes, except that your instructor may be from another Tennessee college or university and you use a separate username/password from your Raidernet username/password. These courses are accessed from the Tn eCampus website eLearning log-in page. It is possible to get an entire degree by taking these courses as part of TN eCampus. There is an additional fee associated with these courses. They may use online or proctored testing.

Hybrid (H)

These classes are a combination of web and traditional. They may use online or proctored testing.

Hybrid Class Offerings

Interactive Video Classes (T)

These classes take advantage of video conferencing technology to bring multiple Roane State campuses together at once. For example, your instructor may be at the main campus, but you and several of your classmates may be sitting in a classroom at any of the other Roane State sites that also have IDEA Rooms set up.

IDEA Class Offerings

Accelerated Classes

These fast-paced classes typically meet only one night a week. The start dates vary throughout the semester and are offered in five, seven, and ten week semesters.

Accelerated Class Offerings

Traditional (001, 026, etc.)

Face-to-face classes that take place in a classroom at a regularly scheduled time. Most traditional courses use D2L/Momentum as a supplement or to house important documents such as the course syllabus.
