Project Overview: Expand AQT through Roane County Tennessee with an initial installation of four quilt squares in strategic high traffic locations within the county. These squares will be created and overseen by Bryan Wilkerson of the RSCC Art Department and his students. The installation of these squares will occur fall 2009 following a six week exhibit at the Knoxville Museum of Art July 10th - August 23rd which coincides with the American Quilter's Society internation Expo July 22-25, 2009. The exhibit will include the actual quilt squares, photo renderings of the installation site, documentation of the process, historical info about quilts and the AQT. Following the exhibit the quilt squares will be installed in the various locations below. Over the next few years it is our goal to create various trails county wide.

Detail of Quilt Square
Basket of Scraps. Maker: The Blaire Sisters- Susan, Mary Ann, or Elizabeth Jane. Barnardsville, Roance County, circa 1880. The Blaire sisters did sewing for others in the community. This quilt is made of many sewing scraps and probably contains fabric swatches from friends living in other states. The letters left at the farm often include requests for dress scraps for quilting projects.
The Blaire sisters, seated left to right, Susan Caroline and Elizabeth Jane. Standing: Mary Ann and their nephew, J.E.L. Johnson, in front of farmhouse in Roane County in 1900.
