Roane State CC drops high-scoring affair to Volunteer St., 14-10

Roane State CC fell 14-10 to Volunteer St. in seven innings on Saturday at Harriman, TN despite racking up 15 hits and 10 runs.

Landon Byron racked up three RBIs on four hits for Roane State CC. He singled in the second and third innings and doubled in the sixth and seventh innings.

Volunteer St. pounded Roane State CC pitching, as seven hitters combined for 13 hits, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

The game's last lead went to Volunteer St. thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Chevis Hoover and an RBI single by Dalton Davis.

Volunteer St. added three more runs in the top of the second. A clutch bases loaded walk scored Adam Brown to open the scoring in the frame.

Volunteer St. got two-run rallies in the third inning and the fifth. In the third, Volunteer St. scored on a passed ball, scoring Hunter Gilbert.

Roane State CC scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut its deficit to five. An RBI single by Logan Jenkins and an RBI single by Landon gave Roane State CC life. Volunteer St. stopped the rally after Chevis got Lance Mays to strike out.

Two runs in the bottom of the fourth helped Roane State CC close its deficit to 7-4. A two-run double by Derek Basler triggered Roane State CC's comeback. But, Austyn Dyer got Landon to ground out to end the inning.

Volunteer St. increased its lead with five runs in the sixth. The inning got off to a hot start when Adam doubled, scoring Nick Holt and Dalton. That was followed up by Austin Matthews's single, bringing home Hunter Gilbert and Adam.

After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Roane State CC faced just a 14-7 deficit. An RBI double by Landon, an RBI single by Aaron Fielden, and a sacrifice fly by Lance sparked Roane State CC's rally. Finally, Austyn got Ralph O'Neal to to end the threat.

A three-run seventh inning helped bring Roane State CC within four. A two-run double by Andrew Henson and an RBI double by Landon gave Roane State CC life. The game went final when Lance flew out.
