A degree-seeking applicant who has never attended a college or university, or who has only attended a college or university while still enrolled in high school, will be considered a first-time college student. Applicants in this category should:

  1. Apply using the online application for admission located at www.roanestate.edu.
  2. Submit official high school transcripts or official copy of High School Equivalency (HSE) scores. Transcripts must be mailed directly to the Admissions and Records Office or sent via an electronic transcript service (not email) and should include date of graduation as well as verification that the student passed the required proficiency examination.
NOTE: The transcript of a home school student should be an official copy from an affiliated organization as defined by state law (T.C.A. 49-50-801). Transcripts from independent home school students must be accompanied by certification of registration with the superintendent of the local education agency which the student would otherwise attend. Students unable to provide a satisfactory secondary school credential may substitute acceptable High School Equivalency (HSE) scores.
  3. All freshman applicants under 21 years of age must submit ACT or SAT scores, have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.60 or higher, or take the Accuplacer exam. All freshman applicants 21 years of age or older must take the Accuplacer exam. Detailed information about placement based on ACT and Accuplacer scores may be found on the Learning Support website.
  4. Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or lawful presence in the United States.
  5. All students must complete the Immunization Health History form. The General Assembly of the State of Tennessee mandates that each public or private postsecondary institution in the state provide information concerning Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella (Chicken Pox) infections to all students enrolling for the first time. Tennessee law requires that these students complete and sign a waiver form provided by the institution which includes detailed information about the diseases. The form must be completed by a parent or guardian of any applicant under the age of 18.
