Reaction Paper for Quilt Project

I was really excited to find out that we would be designing and making a quilt for this class. I was even more thrilled when I found out that we would be donating our quilts to the B4Books program. I knew a little bit about the B4Books program because I worked for 6 years at Kids, Incorporated. Some of the children that we visited in their homes were also involved with the Health Department’s Hugs program which I believe started B4Books. I think that this is a wonderful service project and I think that the children and families that end up with these quilts will be very happy. I believe that the children will enjoy the bright colors, different shapes and animals and also the different textures of the fabrics.
I am excited about donating my quilt to the B4Books program because I believe that the child that receives it will learn from it eventually. Also if there are other children in the home they will have the opportunity to see and feel the quilt and maybe they have the book to read as well. I would love to do a project similar to this when I become a teacher. Maybe not a quilt but I am sure there are many other ways that individuals could get involved in outreach programs such as this one. I will definitely try my best to find a program with a need like Ms. Gowan did and try to help them as much as I can.
By doing this project I feel like I have a better respect for myself and for the other students in my class as well as Ms. Gowan. We could have very easily done an in class project for just a normal grade but Ms. Gowan made this project worthwhile for us as students and for the families that are going to be receiving these quilts. I am very glad that I choose to take this course with Ms. Gowan and I was able to participate in this project. I hope whoever ends up with my quilt really enjoys it and it helps them in whatever way that the particular child needs.
