Quilt Reaction

This semester for Ms. Gowan we had to make a quilt. At first I was really not excited about doing the project. Although I knew we were going to donate the quilt to B4Books and it was for a good cause I was still somewhat reluctant about the project. I chose Sleep, Baby, Sleep as my nursery rhyme and got started. This was my first time ever doing any kind of project like this. I have to admit I was scared that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Well I started and with my mom’s help it turned out really well. After all the work my mother and I put into this project it is hard to let it go. Especially since it was kind of a project we did together. The thing that is so great about it is that I know it is going to some child who needs it more than I do. I’m glad to be able to give to the community and let children and even their parents know how important education is. This project will show how a college education can help promote education within the community.

Also I think that doing this project has shown a good example of a project to do in the classroom with my own students. Since having to do this project I think it would be fun if I could have each student do their own square of a quilt and have a class quilt. The things I have learned while doing this project  is definitely a lot about geometry. All the different shapes and how you can use your imagination to make beautiful designs for a quilt. When I first started I thought how  am I going to do a quilt with geometrical shapes. Well with a little imagination and a lot of help from Ms. Gowan I got it. This project has also peaked a new interest for me. I have made the decision that quilting will be a new hobby. My mother and I plan to do another quilt as a mother daughter project.
