Roane State Community College (RSCC), a multi-campus comprehensive community college serving an eight-county area in east Tennessee, is seeking applicants for the position of Vice President of Student Learning. This position presents an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to provide leadership to the institution and its faculty regarding the Colleges academic life. The Vice President for Student Learning/Chief Academic Officer reports directly to the President and is responsible for performing the duties typical of this position including providing leadership in all academic matters such as curriculum development, administration and evaluation of academic programs, coordinating academic budgets, etc. The Vice President for Student Learning supervises the academic deans and through intermediate administrators, the faculty. The Vice President for Teaching and Student Learning is responsible for leadership in the academic disciplines, libraries, learning centers, student advising, center for teaching arts and technology, international education, dual studies program, and distance education.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Management, evaluation and development of the academic divisions;
Through deans, supervises the selection, evaluation and granting of tenure/promotion of faculty;
Provide leadership in support the Colleges academic mission;
Provide leadership in the area of curriculum development for current and new programs;
Facilitate faculty development and exercise leadership in creating a supportive learning environment for students and faculty;
Support the dynamic requirements of a multi-campus college, and provides a quality learning environment in all centers;
Coordinate the dual credit program with local high schools;
Manage the libraries;
Manage and coordinate all tutoring programs/centers;
Manage and coordinate all advising programs/centers and veteran services;
Direct and oversee the Weekend College program;
Create and maintain a learning college and community;
Provide energetic and forward thinking in the area of technology in instruction with a commitment to facilitating faculty development in innovative methods of instructional delivery;
Facilitate and encourages continuous improvement in the academic endeavors of the college;
Serve as the college's liaison to the TBR Regents Online Degree Program (RODP), Continuing Education program (ROCE), and the Continuing Education and Economic Development (CEED) committee effective 2010;
Manage and coordinate the academic budgets;
Ensure institutional compliance with internal policies, Tennessee Board of Regents and Tennessee Higher Education Commission policies and guidelines, SACs Commission on Colleges requirements and standards, other accreditation bodies, and state and federal laws related to the departments for which oversight is provided;
Serve on appropriate committees: Executive Council, Academic and Curriculum Council, Budget, Strategic Planning, TBR Chief Academic officers sub council, and TBR RODP Oversight Committee;
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate plus 10 years educational experience with 5 years or more of educational administrative experience at the deans level or equivalent. The successful candidate will have:
Demonstrated record of successful academic and administrative leadership and the ability to support and communicate the Colleges academic and service mission
Leadership in the area of curriculum development including the development of new academic programs
Innovation and creativity in faculty development and the ability to exercise leadership in creating a supportive learning-centered environment for students and faculty
Ability and commitment to working collaboratively with faculty and college administration
An understanding of the dynamics and requirements of a multi-campus college and a commitment to providing a quality learning environment in all teaching centers
Energetic and forward thinking ideas in the area of technology in instruction with a commitment to facilitating faculty development in innovative methods of instructional delivery
A commitment to the development of standards for student learning, to the use of assessment for the improvement of educational outcomes, and to the principles of continuous improvement in all areas of academic endeavor
A commitment to creating and maintain a learning community
A commitment to the philosophy and mission of distance learning developing of new academic programs
