DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
General Description

Position involves the responsibilities for system administration of systems software and hardware. The planning, designing, implementing, documenting and maintaining efficient and cost-effective administration computer application systems/programs to meet college informational needs as directed. Provide technical advice, assistance and training in user computer applications as needed. Provide efficient and dependable computer applications and databases. Provide guidance in the planning, design, modifications, installation, documentation, and maintenance of computer application software of programmers.


• System administration system software/hardware

• Operating System support

• Document system administration processes and procedures

• Design, modify, maintain, or install computer application systems and programs

• Code computer application programs and procedures

• Test computer application systems/programs and procedures

• Document computer applications systems/programs and procedures

• Implement computer applications systems and programs

• Maintain computer application systems and programs

• Provide user assistance and training in use of application software/hardware, by keeping abreast of latest data processing procedures, techniques, and principles

• Assign responsibility and coordinate the responsibilities for the development of the computer software

• Assist programmers in resolution of problems encountered

• Database administration

• Document database administration processes and procedures

• Implement, maintain system communications software/hardware

• Perform other work as assigned

• Overall the above work is done daily in order to provide computer application systems/programs for users, which assist in solving college business/administrative data processing needs or informational needs for use in making sound administrative decisions.

Knowledge, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge required includes the following skills and abilities:

Application system/program analysis and design, systems administration, data file and database design and information retrieval, program coding, documentation, testing, implementation, and maintenance techniques; using interactive and batch processing methods as applicable.

COBOL, Pro C, SQL, PLDQL HTML programming language expertise, and knowledge of other programming languages as needed.

Use of Sun Solaris/Unix, Oracle and common input output peripherals operation, usage, and command language.

General understanding of role, functions, and operation of a community college with respect to administrative informational needs and data inter-relationships.

Ability to express well in verbal and written form, ideas and procedures; and understand complex data relationships.

Personal characteristics of honesty, integrity, trust, working well with various personnel, accuracy and timeliness in work performed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field.

Experience: Three years data processing experience as an applications programmer/analyst in a college setting, using a Sun Solaris computer for administrative applications. Experience with Sun Solaris Operating Systems. Two years practical experience in COBOL, Pro C, SQL, PLSQL and HTML. Applications programming experience as a systems analyst desired.
Or
A.S. degree in Computer Science with a Business option; and five years data processing experience as a programmer/analyst in a college setting using COBOL, Pro C, SQL, PLSQL and HTML programming language. Experience with Sun Solaris Operating Systems.
