APPLICANT MUST BE WILLING TO SUBMIT TO A BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE EMPLOYMENT.
General Purpose: Serve as a Police Officer qualified to carry firearms; patrol the campus community, testify in court proceedings, maintain accurate records; operate and maintain law enforcement equipment; enforce all college, state, local and federal laws; investigate suspected criminal incidents and respond to emergency situations.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Must pass 40 hours annual Peace Officers Standards Training Commission (P.O.S.T.)requirements
- Law enforcement policies and practices
- Court system and presentation of evidence in proceedings
- Modern police practices and methods used in criminal investigations
- Community policing philosophy
- College policies; state, federal and local laws
ABILITIES:
-Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; express ideas clearly,concisely and convincingly
- Ascertain facts through personal contact / observation and determine proper course of action
- Maintain control under pressure; work effectively with diverse populations
- Able to pass annual handgun and other small arms accuracy requirements including all state and federal requirements
- Operate police vehicles, law enforcement equipment, telecommunication devices
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s preferred
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license
• Honorable discharge if military experience
• Must pass a psychological and physical exam at the department’s expense
• Tennessee P.O.S.T. certified candidate
• Community college experience and law enforcement training preferred
