How can I use Roane State on iTunesU?
You can make handouts and other course information available to your students. You can also provide recorded lectures and other audio or video files for student access.
You can make class notes available for your students to prepare for an upcoming class, review if they've missed a class or to prepare for quizzes/exams.
How do I request my course(s) be placed in iTunes U?
Please contact a member of CTAT. Indicate which course you would like created in iTunes U and if the content will be open to the public or viewable only to enrolled students.
Will my podcasts be viewable by everyone who uses iTunesU?
By default, podcasts inserted in your courses are only visible to those enrolled in the course. If you would like to make your podcasts visible to others please contact CTAT.
Can I use the same course for the next semester?
Since courses are not automatically migrated from one semester to another it is recommended that you maintain all original files (audio, video, pdf).
Are podcasts archived or saved in iTunes U?
No, podcasts are neither archived nor saved. iTunes U is a hosted service by Apple and does not offer archiving services. Apple also does not offer any backup plan for podcasts should their server fail. As a result, it is strongly recommended that you maintain backups of your own podcasts. This way you will always have your podcasts preserved.
How will students have access to iTunes U?
Roane State on iTunes U is available in certain computer labs at Roane State campuses. Students will be required to furnish their own headphones. Students may access Roane State on iTunes U from their home computers provided they have downloaded iTunes.
Can students upload assignments in iTunes U?
Yes, by default within your iTunes U course, students can upload their own podcasts to the "Drop Box" and "Shared" tabs. If you would like to disable this feature, please contact CTAT.
How do I upload my files to iTunesU?
To upload and manage your files, log in to Roane State on iTunes U from http://www.roanestate.edu/itunesu/
. Navigate to your course and click the "Upload and Manage Files" link on the right side of the screen. Select the tab where you want the podcast to reside and click on "Add File". Follow the onscreen instructions.
Is there a file size limit in iTunes U?
Individual files (podcasts or PDFs) should not exceed 500 megabytes.
What type of files are required on iTunes U?
iPod and iTunes support many formats, including MP3, MP3 VBR, AIFF, Apple Lossless,WAV, AA, MPEG-4, and PDF (iTunes only).
Audio files: AAC, MP3 with appropriate file extensions (.m4a, .mp3)
For best results during playback, Apple recommends converting MP3 files greater than 32 megabytes (MB) to AAC format.
Video files: MPEG-4 with H.264 compression with appropriate file extensions (.mp4, .m4v, .mov)
For best results with iPod, Apple recommends using H.264. More information is available for creating content for iTunes.
iTunes U will also accept the .pdf file format.
