About the Concentration

The emphasis of these concentrations reach beyond the "learning of software". Classes in computer art and design concentrate on the creative solving of visual problems using the computer as a tool. While software knowledge is not seen as a primary goal, students completing these programs must pass proficiency tests from six areas of software specialty. An internship is also required for graduation. The interplay between traditional and electronic media, and the interdependence between fine art and graphic design provides the philosophic basis for these concentrations.

Special concepts courses like "Visions" and "Practicing Artists Seminar" added to required fundamentals courses provide a strong beginning in design and content development. In "Visions", work with a major conceptual project each week during the semester students and experience a wide variety of creative processes and media. Creating story-boards, choosing music, making hundreds of resource lists, and learning how to work in groups of artists or with clients are just a few of the activities of this class.
