Am I Ready to Graduate?

You may be ready to graduate if you have completed 30 hours toward an associate degree or half of the coursework required for a certificate.  Once this much progress has been met, you may submit an Intent to Graduate form.

Graduation is applied to a specific semester.  For each semester, there is a deadline to submit a fully completed Intent to Graduate form:

The deadline for Fall 2009 is Monday, September 7, 2009.

The deadline for Spring/Summer 2010 is Friday, October 9, 2009.

For final graduation, these requirements must be met.

A formal evaluation of your transcript will be sent to you and your advisor.  You're encouraged to meet with your advisor to develop a plan for the completion of the program based on the results of the evaluation.  Information about the graduation ceremony will be mailed to your home address after Spring Break.  Read the information carefully and return the Graduation Participation form to the Graduation Office.

Will I Graduate With Honors?

Degree-seeking students may be eligible to graduate with honors based on the quality point average of coursework completed at Roane State. Academic honors are reflected on the student's transcript and diploma. Certificate students do not qualify for academic honors. Honors designations are based on the following grade point averages:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.9 - 4.0
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.7 - 3.89
  • Cum Laude: 3.5 - 3.69

Academic honors are based on GPA of the semester prior to the spring commencement ceremony.

Graduation Ceremony

The graduation ceremony, called "commencement", is held at the end of the spring semester only. Students who anticipate completing their coursework during the following summer are eligible to participate in commencement exercises if a grade point average is sufficient for graduation and the Intent to Graduate has been officially processed by the spring deadline. Due to the early printing date of the program, academic honors are based on the previous term's grade point average. Fall graduates will be invited to attend the following spring ceremony. Participation in the ceremony is optional, but strongly encouraged.

Information for the graduation ceremony is found on the Commencement Website.
