Roane State has established partnerships with regional universities and colleges to enhance the transferability of coursework. Students can plan their academic program utilizing an already approved articulation agreement or course equivalency table to meet the degree requirements at Roane State and also ensure that the courses they have taken will transfer.
Planning Your Academic Program
Step 1 – Be familiar with the degree requirements for Roane State. Students planning to transfer to a senior institution will follow the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree plan or an articulation agreement.
Step 2 - Students planning to transfer need to decide early in their Roane State career where they will transfer and what their major will be. As shown on the AA/AS degree checklist, there are several categories where a student must make appropriate course selections. The earlier a student decides on their senior institution, the more likely an advisor can assist the student in selecting courses that will fulfill the requirements.
Articulation Agreements
Roane State has articulation agreements with many universities designed to make your transition to the university of your choice as seamless as possible.
An articulation agreement (sometimes called a transfer agreement) is a two-year plan of courses that helps you:
Of course, to be able to transfer (or articulate) you still must meet all of your university's GPA and entrance requirements.
Note also that an A.A. or A.S. degree is not in itself an articulation agreement with any university.
Course Equivalency Tables
All Roane State courses transfer to regionally accredited institutions. Whether or not those courses fulfill actual degree requirements will be the decision of the receiving institution, provided an acceptable transferrable grade is achieved. Students and advisors can utilize these tables when an articulation agreement does not exist for a particular college or university. While every attempt is made to keep these tables current, the student should verify with their receiving institution advisor the transferability of a course prior to it being taken.
