We are so glad that you are interested in Roane State. We would be pleased to have you here, and we want very much to help you achieve your educational goals.

The checklist below will walk you through key steps toward enrolling at Roane State. This list will give you a good, general overview of the steps to follow, but be sure to check the links for all the details.

______ Request high school/GED transcripts
______ Request transcripts from all colleges attended
Upon receipt of students’ transcripts, any college- level math and/or English courses will be evaluated and posted to their Roane State transcript. Successful completion of college-level English and math may, under special circumstances, exempt students from submitting ACT scores or COMPASS testing.

______ If under 21, submit official ACT scores to Admissions
If you are not yet 21 years old and your ACT scores from high school are three or more years old, you must take the ACT-Residual* or the ACT-National exam in order to attend RSCC.

* ACT-Residual test scores may NOT be used to qualify for the HOPE Scholarship (lottery). Scores may be used, however, to qualify for Dual Enrollment Grants for those interested in the Dual Studies program. Dual studies courses allow high school students to earn college credit and high school credit at the same time. ACT-Residual testing is strictly for admission to Roane State.

______ Take the COMPASS test if necessary
If you are 21 years or older, and plan to pursue a degree program, you must take the COMPASS exam in order to attend RSCC.

______ Submit MMR shot record if necessary (for full-time students only)
Provide proof of two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) immunizations if born in or after 1957. If you graduated from a Tennessee high school in 1999 or thereafter, this requirement is waived, and you will not need to submit proof of MMR immunizations. If this requirement is not waived, proof of two MMR shots is required for all full-time students (students taking 12 hours or more) BEFORE registration can be completed.

______ Attend a New Student Orientation
During this session, you will meet with an adviser who will help with selecting courses for your first semester. You will register for classes during New Student Orientation, so it's very important that you attend. You will be assigned a faculty academic adviser during your first semester of enrollment.

APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID
______ Complete the FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. January 1 is the first date that the FAFSA will be available for the next school year. Fill out your FAFSA early. DO NOT WAIT for college acceptance to do this!
______ Complete forms as directed by Financial Aid Dept.

______ Check on transfer program information
If you are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university, be sure to make a contact there and obtain specific program information. Also, check to see if we have an articulation agreement with the college of your choice. Articulation agreements help streamline the transfer process to a four-year school.

The Roane State Bookstore will help you with all your textbook needs. The Bookstore has locations on the main campus in Harriman and at the Oak Ridge Campus. You may also buy books online.

______ If you need assistance with deciding on a major/career ....

If you are undecided on your major, you may contact Counseling and Career Services for information about taking an online career assessment. Taking an online career assessment, as well as exploring available career exploration and planning Web sites, are often the first steps students should take to begin the process of deciding on a major. Counselors can provide students with guidance throughout this process. New students who are undecided on their major often begin college with a major of AS General, until a more specific major is selected.
