Here's the crew of SARA radio astronomers in front of the historic Reber telescope at the
Green Bank, WV, National Radio Astronomy Observatory. It's a wonderful facility. This
photo was mostly taken on June 20, 2006. I'm on the right, showing one of the new
NRAO SARA Navigator radio telescopes that will be at TAO on most public nights.
Kerry Smith, builder of these jewels, is hiding behind the other little radio telescope.
The big Green Bank Telescope (GBT) can be seen in the distance on the left.
The GBT is the world's largest steerable radio telescope and is sometimes called
the Great Big Telescope. So the little Radio Navigtor units have become the IBTs,
short for "Itty Bitty Telescopes."
Eight people closely associated with TAO attended and cotributed to the conference.
John Mannone is in the photo, left of center and Tyler Moore is there too, in the back
row about 1/4 way in from the right side. Carl Lyster is near the center of the group
and Robert Kennedy is in the front row -- see also our recent international
visitors at TAO -- Stan Kurtz, Carmen Pantoja and Wanda Diaz.
There are a lot of fastastic people here and I only mentioned those that you'll
often see at TAO. You can click on the photo to see a high resolution copy. The nice
photo is by Janis Osborne and the editing is by me (David Fields).
