Revision Checklist for Reports

Organization:

     Is there an introduction, body, and conclusion?
     Are headings appropriate and adequate?
     Have you built in enough transitions between related ideas?
     Does the report have all needed front and end matter?
     Have you used definition, comparison, and/or division and classification well?

Content:

     Does the report have a clear statement of purpose?
     Does the report have a knowledge of the audience?
     Is the length adequate and appropriate?
     Is each topic clearly defined before it is discussed?
     Is the analysis based on hard evidence?
     Is the analysis free of specious reasoning?
     Are all sources credible?
     Is the research accurate, unbiased, and complete?
     Have you fully interpreted the findings?
     Is the documentation correct?
     Are limitations clearly spelled out?
     Are recommendations based on accurate interpretations?
     Have you checked all individual facts for accuracy?
     Have you eliminated any potentially libelous statements?

Style and Proofreading:

     Is the level of technicality appropriate to the audience?
     Are all of your sentences clear and concise?
     Is your tone professional and your language convincing?
     Have you checked grammar and punctuation?
     Are all page numbers in the Table of Contents correct?
     Have you checked the figure/table numbers in the text against those in the front matter and
     below the figures themselves?
     Are all dates correct and updated?
     Have you spell checked, including the headings?
