Course Description

This course provides principles of biochemistry and nutrition principles including nutritional standards and requirements, dietary sources of nutrients and nutrient utilization as it relates to health, disease and total care of patients. Emphasis will be on the relationship between nutrition and dental caries and periodontal disease. The student will be taught to correlate nutrition and dental health, provide nutritional counseling, and develop dietary plans for patients. (Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program and CHEM 1010 or 1110) 3 lecture hrs/week
