Course Description

This course addresses the care and clinical management of special needs clients who present with conditions/diseases of significance to dental hygiene care. Included is discussion of the pathophysiology, etiology, psychosocial, physical, and oral characteristics, potential emergencies, and the related dental hygiene process of care associated with these conditions/diseases. Preparation of a case-study document/research paper on a selected topic including accessing and implementation of evidence-based resource materials is included. (2 lecture hours/week) Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Dental Hygiene Program, DHYG 133, DHYG 171 and corequisites DHYG 201 DHYG 221 and DHYG 251.
