This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of Health Information Management. The development, content and management of the medical record will be explored as well as a basic overview of the healthcare delivery system. Emphasis is placed on hospital and medical staff organization; patient record content; procedures in filing, numbering, and retention of patient records; quantitative analysis; release of patient information; forms control and design; indexes and registers; regulatory and accrediting agencies; and the transition to an electronic health record.
