A course designed for students who score below 19 on the ACT reading subsection or below 83 on the reading subsection of the COMPASS. The course follows the emporium model with students meeting for designated class time in a computer lab where they can work through materials in Pearson's My Reading Lab with the assistance of the instructor. Students are also expected to work independently on the course materials outside of class. In addition to the course materials in My Reading Lab, students must complete journal responses to assigned readings including a novel of the instructor's choosing and participate in small group work in class. A minimum standard to pass the course is successful completion of the first reading learning support competency, as determined through a combination of the My Reading Labs curriculum and class specific assignments. Students are encouraged to complete both competencies in a single semester. (F, SP, SU)
