Roane State Community College’s Fentress County location will be moved to the campus of neighboring York Institute beginning this fall.
Roane State’s current location, 632 N. Main Street, opened in 2004 and is composed of portable structures that house classrooms, offices, a small lounge and a computer lab.
“We have worked closely with York Institute for many years as part of our dual enrollment program,” said Dr. Diane Ward, Roane State vice president for student learning. “Being located on the York campus is a natural fit and will provide a better learning environment for students.”
Roane State’s space at York Institute will include two classrooms, an office, restrooms, and a small student lounge with computers. Student services such as financial aid and course registration will be available.
Approximately 125 students take classes at Roane State’s Fentress County location each semester.
“We are excited to be in Fentress County and to provide access to higher education within the community,” Dr. Ward said. “The opportunity to move to York Institute is a win-win for all of us, and we greatly appreciate the support we have received from York and from the state.”
The move will be completed before fall classes begin on Aug. 22.
