News: Roane State art students earn honors

The following Roane State Community College students earned awards for their work in the college’s Student Art Show, held at the end of the spring semester.

Students and their honors were: Archie Clark of Spring City, Outstanding Achievement in Art; Logan Malicoat of Rockwood, Anne Powers Promise Award; Megan Strunk of Helenwood, James Nathan Greene Memorial Scholarship; Morgan Smythe of Kingston, honorable mention for “Beaches”; Erica Ostrander of Lenoir City, Honorable Mention for “First Snow”; Mary Klages of Oak Ridge, honorable mention for “Hands of Time” and Art Spirit Award for Experimentation in Media for “Bound”; Marsha Scarbrough of Harriman, third place for “Defy the Darkness”; Steven Young of Rockwood, second place for “The Look”; and “Bennie” Martha Bennett of Vonore, first place for “Yea-sayer.”

Roane State’s annual Student Art Show is open to all Roane State student artists and is an opportunity for students to hone their skills and gain exhibition experience. This year’s juror was Brian Jobe.
