Roane State Film Festival
Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 3 PM at the Princess Theatre
The event includes screening of the films, followed by filmmaker Q&A and an awards presentation. The public is welcome to attend.
Theme
This year’s theme is obsession. Each film submitted to the Roane State Film Festival must relate to this theme. Each filmmaker may choose their own genre, including but not limited to drama, horror, comedy, action, and science fiction.
For 2022-2023, the Roane State Film Festival is open to all Roane State students and all high school students in Roane County, Tennessee.
Rules for Filmmakers
Entrants are responsible for recording, editing, and submitting their own films.
Entrants are responsible for the safety and liability of themselves and any cast or crew during the recording and editing processes.
Finished films must be between 1 and 5 minutes in duration.
Films must be an interpretation of the current year’s film festival theme. For 2022-2023, the theme is obsession.
Films must be submitted by 6 PM Eastern time on March 10, 2023. Video files should be submitted in 16x9, ideally at least 1920x1080, as MOV or MP4 files.
To qualify for submission this year, your film must have been completed between September 1, 2022, and March 1, 2023.
Submissions will be accepted from current Roane State students (taking at least one class in the current academic year) and current high school students in Roane County, Tennessee (public, private, or home school).
Limit one entry per filmmaker.
There is no cost to submit a film.
No copyrighted music is permitted in a submitted film unless the entrant secures permission from the copyright holder.
Entrants retain ownership and control of their own films. Roane State Film Festival committee members and judges will not share films online publicly without approval from the filmmakers.
Each film’s content should meet Roane State and community standards. Keep it G, PG, or PG-13.
The judging period will be March 1-20, 2023. Films will be judged on directing, cinematography, and editing, with separate categories for high school entries and college entries.
