Members of the Kingston Rotary Club have donated $1,000 to the Roane State Foundation, and Scott Niermann, the foundation's executive director, expressed his appreciation following his talk about Roane State Community College during a recent club meeting.
The foundation is a separate 501c3 corporation governed by an independent board of directors, and the gift will be used to help provide financial support for Roane State students and programs.
The foundation also seeks to enhance community awareness of the college, to secure private contributions and bequests, and to manage monies or properties given to the nonprofit.
Even with the well-known Tennessee Promise and Reconnect programs, Niermann said there's still the need to provide financial support to students. He said the club's donation will help students with books, materials, lab and online fees and other costs that they typically incur.
Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer programs, career-preparation programs and continuing education. Founded in 1971, the college has campuses in Crossville, Harriman, Huntsville, Jamestown, Knoxville, LaFollette, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge, Wartburg and Clinton.
