Title VI & VII Information

WHAT IS TITLE VI?

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI) prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in the programs or activities of all recipients of Federal financial assistance. The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Title VI with respect to recipients of Federal financial assistance from the Department, including States, school districts, public schools, and public and private colleges.

WHAT IS TITLE VII?

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlaws discrimination against a job seeker or employee on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity) or national origin.

HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH ROANE STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Complaints must be filed in writing with the Title VI/VII Coordinator for the college. Complaints from all ten campuses will be directed to the Harriman/Roane County campus.

You should be aware that a recipient is prohibited from retaliating against you or any person because he or she opposed an unlawful policy or practice, or made charges, testified or participated in any complaint action under Title VI/VII.
