The HESI EMS-ADN is administered through Health Education Systems Inc. (HESI) and designed to assess a potential students fundamental clinical knowledge as it pertains to the nursing process.

The HESI EMS-ADN is taken by licensed Paramedic applicants who are applying to the RN Bridge Option. On the day of the examination, the applicant is required to present an active Paramedic license or a signed letter from the Paramedic Program Director verifying eligibility to sit for the Paramedic licensure exam. 

Please contact the Nursing Department for specific questions regarding the HESI EMS-ADN and its role in the admission process.

Kinds of Questions on the Exam

The computer based HESI EMS-ADN Entrance Exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions and measures competencies across nursing content areas, including: fundamentals, pediatrics, maternity, pharmacology, medical-surgical, physical assessment, psychiatric/mental health. Furthermore, you may encounter questions requiring mathematical conversations in relation to the nursing process.

Fee

The fee for the HESI EMS-ADN is $45.00 and is non-refundable. You may go by the Business Office/Cashier at the Roane County or Oak Ridge Campus to pay your test fee. The fee can be paid the day of testing. Failure to cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance will require a new testing fee. Cancellations prior to 48 hours will be allowed to retest within one academic calendar year at no charge. Please remember to keep your receipt; you are required to present it to the testing proctor on the day of your exam or if you intend on testing at a later date.

ALSO NOTE: You must wait a minimum of 30 days between retakes. 

On the Day of the Test

Bring the following items. These are requirements for your testing appointment. Failure to provide any of this information may result in cancellation of your reservation and forfeiture of your testing fee.

Not allowed during testing:

Any necessary testing materials will be provided (scratch paper, pencils, calculator) by the Testing Center.

Getting Your Exam Scores

Test results will appear on the computer screen immediately after you have completed the exam. RSCC Testing Centers will not print test results. You may access your results anytime through your Evolve account which you will create at the time you take the exam. Keep a record of your Evolve account username and password so that you may refer to the account if the scores are needed at a later time. You can find information regarding viewing and ordering copies of your scores on the Evolve Student Welcome Page.

A record of your HESI EMS-ADN scores will be posted in your Raidernet account under Student Self Service. Please allow 5 - 10 business days for your record to reflect the changes.

Please Note: The scores will automatically be sent to the Allied Health Sciences and Nursing Admissions Office to be recorded in your electronic file. You do not need to notify the Nursing Admissions Office that you have completed your testing requirement.

A passing score of 850 or better is required to be eligible for admission to the RSCC RN Bridge Nursing Program.

Re-Takes

RSCC allows students to re-take the exam after a minimum 30 day wait period. (Scores from RSCC or any other institution must adhere to the above re-test procedures to be considered valid for RSCC admissions requirements and prerequisites. ) Each time an exam is taken the examinee is required to pay the full fee.
