
Welcome to Thriving at Roane State! The Thriving at Roane State program is designed to help students develop the tools they need to be academically successful while gaining life skills that can be utilized in the classroom and the workplace. This program is completely optional, but you can earn Roane State Swag just by completing the online modules! In addition to earning RSCC swag for module completion, each survey is an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing at the end of the semester!
Momentum
There is a course in your Momentum called "Thriving at Roane State" with modules covering a variety of topics. As you finish modules, you'll be asked to complete a simple survey so that you can be entered into drawings to win a prize for that module. For each module completed, you'll also get an entry into the Grand Prize drawing at the end of the semester! There are deadlines to be entered into the drawings, so make sure you log in early to have much time as possible to complete each module!
Based on suggestions from previous students, we have added a video recording of presentations related to each module. These videos provide slightly different information than is in the modules and can be viewed to enhance your knowledge of the subject!

- Module 1: Habits
Did you know that 43% of our daily behaviors are automatic? We develop these automatic habits over time as we grow. However, through no fault of our own, we don't always develop habits that are good for us or that help us succeed in the different aspects of our lives. In this section, we'll take a look at how we can stop bad habits and develop good ones.

Sleep is one of the most important factors to developing good habits. This module will help you understand the vital role sleep plays in performing well academically. Whether you’re a returning student or a brand new one, using the right study tools can be an important asset to your success in the classroom. This module presents some common learning strategies that can help you do your very best on those quizzes, tests, and exams.

We all have character strengths that enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. Complete your character strengths assessment and then complete this module to learn about your strengths and how you can use those strengths to enhance your performance in classes and at work!

- Module 5: Grit and Note Taking
We are all resilient in the activities we love the most, meaning we find ways around barriers to the things we most want to do. This module discussion tapping into these attitudes and strategies even when we’re going through difficult times.Module 5 Survey due by Friday, October 3, 2025
- Module 6: Optimism, Hope, and Test Taking
This module explores ways to shift our perspective to being more positive and enhancing optimism. We’ll look at quizzes, tests, and exams and discuss ways to approach those experiences that can help us be less stressed as we approach the middle of the semester.

- Module 7: Gratitude, Savoring, Focus and Concentration
Showing gratitude can have a positive impact on our mental health, but it can also be an academic skill. We’ll be talking about slowing down and smelling the roses, while still accomplishing our class and work related goals in this module.

- Module 8: Flow and Waypoints into Essay Writing Flow experiences are linked to intrinsic motivation and positive experiences. This module will explain the concept of a "flow state" and how to achieve that as well as various approaches to writing assignments.

- Module 9: Growth Mindset, Awe and Group Work
Talent, intelligence, and attitude are only the beginning of what it takes to learn. Embracing and learning from mistakes leads to developing a growth mindset, a critical part of the learning process. Attend this session to learn more about adopting a growth mindset as well as some approaches to group projects that can help you achieve even more in the classroom or at work!

- Module 10: Self-Compassion and Self-Advocacy
How many times do we remind our friends, “Don’t be so hard on yourself.”? In this session, we’ll talk about ways to turn that compassionate eye inward while learning how to advocate for yourself.

- Module 11: Procrastination and Digital Learning Resources
Eliminating procrastination may seem like an insurmountable problem, but this week, we’ll talk about the reasons we procrastination and some approaches to eliminating those behaviors. Additionally, we’ll look at some digital learning resources that can help you in your academic journey.

Grand Prize
The Grand Prize (final) survey/evaluation opportunity will be open from Monday, December 1, 2025 at 8:00 AM EST until Friday, December 5, 2025 at midnight (EST). The grand prize winner will be drawn during the week of December 8, 2025 and the winner will be notified via RSCC email.
