The Roane State Simulation Center at the Knox Regional Health Science Education Center is a comprehensive training facility dedicated to advancing high quality healthcare education across East Tennessee. Our center serves students from Roane State, TCAT Knoxville, and regional healthcare partners through state-of-the-art center realistic learning environments which include a fully equipped simulation hospital, ambulance, two-story apartment, immersive space and more.
Designed to replicate real-world healthcare environments across the continuum of care, the Simulation Center supports experiential learning for students, affiliated organizations, corporate partners, and external clients through hands-on, interactive simulation experiences. The center provides a collaborative setting for realistic simulation where learners can safely practice clinical skills and apply critical thinking within controlled scenarios. This experiential learning builds confidence, strengthens clinical readiness, and prepares learners to deliver competent, patient-centered care across diverse healthcare settings.

Mission
The mission of the Roane State Simulation Center at the Knox Regional Health Science Education Center is to better meet the current and future healthcare workforce needs of our service area. The simulation center will focus on providing high quality simulated interdisciplinary, collaborative learning experiences. It is designed to facilitate students’ acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to provide safe, competent health care to a variety of individuals with a variety of healthcare needs.
Vision
The vision of the Roane State Community College Simulation Center is to be an innovative and student-centered simulation center focused on learning.
Facilities
The innovative simulation center features over 10,000 square feet of realistic healthcare training spaces designed to mirror real-world environments. The facility includes an inpatient hospital layout with critical care and acute care rooms that can be configured for adult, pediatric, or labor and delivery simulations. Flexible spaces can also transform into a multi-bay emergency department or an operating suite. Additional features of the simulation center include an ambulance and bay, an immersive simulation room, and a two-story functional home environment to allow learners to practice hands-on, high-fidelity scenarios from pre-hospital response through inpatient care. This integrated design provides a seamless learning experience across the full continuum of patient care.
Event Request
All simulation event requests should be submitted through the Simulation Center’s online “Event Request” forms. Requests should be submitted at least 3 months before the planned simulation date to allow adequate time for planning and review.
Once a request is received, the Simulation Team will schedule a planning meeting with the requestor to plan the event. This includes reviewing the goals of the event, resources needed, participant details, and addressing any other specific requirements to ensure a successful and well-coordinated simulation experience.
The “Event Request” includes both scenario events and non-scenario event options utilizing the Simulation Center’s facilities and equipment.
- Simulation scenario events involve facilitated clinical scenarios using human patient simulators or standardized participants.
- Facilities events include activities such as recruitment events for groups of 20 or more people, organizational training sessions, film or media projects, or other uses of facilities and equipment that do not involve simulation scenarios.
Please select the option that best describes your event so the Simulation Team can provide appropriate support for your request.
Tour Request
Tours offer a guided overview of the Simulation Center’s facilities, technology, and educational mission to advance healthcare training across the region.
They are designed for small groups of fewer than 20 participants, including prospective students and their families, corporate supporters, community and civic stakeholders, educational partners, and healthcare industry collaborators.
