Artists and sponsors have some additional time to sign up for the 26th annual Street Painting Festival held at Roane State’s Oak Ridge Campus. Originally scheduled for September 28, 2024, festival organizers announced a postponement until Saturday, October 5, due to inclement weather conditions in the area.
A popular celebration of art and community, this yearly event has benefitted hundreds of Roane State students since its inception in 1999. The Rotary Club of Oak Ridge is working with the college and its nonprofit Roane State Foundation to plan the event.
Chalking will begin at 8 a.m. with prizes to be awarded at approximately 5 p.m. ET.
Dozens of artists equipped with chalk and creativity will bring colorful works of art to life on sidewalk squares throughout the Roane State campus, located at 701 Briarcliff Avenue in Oak Ridge. Free chalk and supplies will be provided, and a panel of judges will award the prizes.
Artists interested in participating can register online at roanestate.edu/streetpainting. There is no charge to sign up, but spots are limited. Along with watching artists of all ages as their imaginative artwork takes shape, the festival features music, games, and local vendors.
Materials and Chemistry Laboratory, Inc. (MCLinc), has once again sponsored the festival at the Platinum level. Silver-level sponsors include the American Museum of Science and Energy, UCOR, and the Winter Farmers Market by Grow Oak Ridge. The full list of festival sponsors is available at roanestate.edu/streetpaintingsponsor.
Additional sponsors are being sought to help underwrite the festival and gifts of any amount are appreciated. Recognized sponsorship levels range from Platinum at $5,000 and above; Gold at $2,500 to $4,999; Silver at $1,000 to $2,499; Bronze at $500 to $999; and Art Supporter at $100 to $499.
There are two ways to give: online at roanestate.edu/streetpainting or by mailing a check to Roane State Foundation, 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, TN 37748. With checks, please include “Street Painting Festival” in the memo line.
Over the years, the festival has provided more than $300,000 in scholarships issued by the nonprofit Roane State Foundation.
The Foundation is governed by an independent board of directors and was established to provide financial support for students and programs. It also seeks to enhance community awareness of the college, secure private contributions and bequests and manage monies or properties given to the Foundation.
